Understanding our environment
Understanding the environment in which Pentland will be developed is fundamental to responsible project design.
Environmental assessment and extensive survey work have helped identify the potential effects of both the offshore and onshore elements of the project, informing design decisions and the measures used to avoid, reduce or manage environmental impacts.
Environmental Impact Assessment
An Environmental Impact Assessment, or EIA, identifies and assesses the potential significant environmental effects of a proposed project.
The process helps inform project design from an environmental perspective and identifies both standard industry measures and additional mitigation that can be used to eliminate or minimise potential effects.
The EIAs for Pentland’s offshore and onshore elements were undertaken by UK-based, internationally recognised consultants.

Surveys and studies
Pentland has undertaken a wide range of environmental and technical surveys to build a detailed understanding of the project area and help inform the development of the proposals.
These studies cover both the offshore and onshore environments and include areas such as ecology, archaeology, metocean conditions, noise, birds and fisheries.
