Developing Pentland responsibly
Pentland is being developed with a focus on environmental responsibility, meaningful community engagement and creating long-term opportunities for Scotland.
Working with communities, stakeholders and environmental specialists, we are continuing to refine the project as it progresses — balancing the need to deliver renewable energy with careful consideration of the environment, local communities and the wider economy.
A project shaped by consultation and evidence
The offshore consents application for Pentland was approved by Scottish Ministers in June 2023, allowing the construction and operation of a project with a capacity of around 100MW.
Ongoing survey work and project design have since helped refine the proposals. Changes to Pentland’s offshore consents were approved in 2024, enabling the project to use fewer turbines within a smaller area while maintaining the same generating capacity.
Planning permission in principle for the onshore elements of the project was granted by The Highland Council in January 2023.
